Chickasaw Nation officials broke ground September 24, 2002, for the construction of a children's village on approximately 160 acres overlooking Lake Texoma.

The Chickasaw Children's Village will be the successor to Carter Seminary, a peripheral dormitory. The new facility will update the dormitory approach to what is often referred to as a "therapeutic community." The cottages at the children's village will house 8 students each.
