Here are a few suggestions for activities that will bring you closer to the Chickasaw Nation and the Chickasaw people in this new year of 2012.
Attend the annual Chickasaw Chamber Music Festival in June in Ada. You will be amazed at the beautiful compositions being produced and performed by your fellow Chickasaws and others!
Enjoy a nice lunch at one of the many senior nutrition centers throughout the Chickasaw Nation. You will not only enjoy a great meal, you will meet many wonderful Chickasaw elders. And you could very well discover a relative you didn’t previously know!
Next November, go along with some of our Chickasaw World War II and Korean War veterans on their flight to Washington, D.C., for Veterans Day. You will meet some of the greatest people ever.
Drop in on a Chickasaw Learning Community gathering at the University of Oklahoma during the school year. These Chickasaw students support each other as they launch their college careers. A great place to make great connections!

At the Holisso Center, you will discover so many and varied pieces of Chickasaw history, you will be awestruck! The Holisso Center is the national clearinghouse for important Chickasaw history. You will gain real insight into the Chickasaw people.
Come and meet some of our School to Work students, whose success stories are truly inspiring. These non-traditional students receive help from the Chickasaw Nation as they build their educations, their careers and their families.
Join with our Chickasaw Leadership students in one of their many projects. In 2011, these achieving students jumped in with Habitat For Humanity to build homes for deserving families. These kids are really on the right track!
Visit any of our ongoing Arts and Humanities programs for our students. You will find students from elementary age through college experiencing painting, music, drama, writing and so much more. The Chickasaw After School program is great fun!
Don’t forget the Chickasaw Nation Annual Meeting and Chickasaw Festival! This is, of course, our annual event that welcomes all Chickasaws home to the Chickasaw Nation. You are sure to enjoy the many activities, as well as the many, many Chickasaws and others who come to celebrate. So many Chickasaws come to this gathering, and there is something new to discover every year. If you haven’t yet attended, it’s time for you to catch up!
Of course, our many tribal facilities throughout the Chickasaw Nation look forward to welcoming you. Our tribal employees would love to show you the great things going on in the Chickasaw Nation.
We have now embarked on a new year and we all look forward to much more progress this year. Whatever new projects we undertake, we want you to be included. We have scores of programs, services, gatherings, classes, conferences and so on - and our number one priority continues to be the Chickasaw people.
Please get involved with your tribe this year. You’ll be glad you did!
