Two Ada-area radio stations, KADA and sister station KYKC, recently received state-wide recognition from the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters (OAB).

KADA, also known as Cool 99.3 FM, was awarded first place in the Commercial Announcement category for the Non-Metro Radio Division.

The Star Wars-themed commercial for Cable One in Ada was one of nearly 60 entries.

“It’s a big honor,” said Roger Harris, General Manager of the South Central Oklahoma Radio Enterprises.

Harris added that a certain satisfaction comes from being recognized by your peers.

“The association is made up of radio and television people, so they know the business well.”

Rich Kaye was named as a finalist for the division’s Personality of the Year for 2008.  Kaye hosts 100.1 KYKC’s morning show and has been with the station since 1992.

“It feels great to be considered for this award,” he said.  “I love what I do—every day on the air is different and I just go in and have fun.”

Both KYKC and KADA are owned and operated by the Chickasaw Nation.

Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby said he is pleased to learn of the awards.

"These awards add to a long list of honors these stations have received," said Gov. Anoatubby. "Recognition from this organization confirms that the staff and management of these stations continue doing excellent work."

The OAB is a non-profit organization of commercial radio and television stations organized to serve the public interest and promote the cooperation and prosperity of its members.

KADA will be honored and the Personality of the Year award winner will be announced at the OAB Awards Banquet April 17th in Tulsa.

The Non-Metro Division includes all stations in Oklahoma except those located in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
