Chickasaw Cultural Evening Set Sept. 27 at Cultural Center

Traditional food, stickball, stomp dance and crafts will be featured during Chickasaw Cultural Evening, Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Chickasaw Cultural Center, 867 Charles Cooper Memorial Road, Sulphur, Okla.

“Cultural Evening is a great opportunity for Chickasaws to embrace the culture and heritage which binds us together as a people,” said Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby. “It also provides a great opportunity to share our history and traditions with our friends.”

Activities beginning at 4 p.m. include guided tours of the Chikasha Poya Exhibit Gallery, Aaholitopli Honor Garden and Holisso Center, as well as a screening of “Behind the Scenes” in the Anoil Theater.

Children’s activities and Cultural Demonstrations, including bow making, beading and other traditional crafts will take place in the Chikasha Inchokka’ Traditional Village from 4 - 8 p.m.
 
Portraits of the Elders by Mike Larsen will be on display all evening in the Aatifama Room.

Opening ceremony is set for 5 p.m. at the Kochcha’ Aabinili’ Amphitheater with a prayer, posting of colors and the traditional bell ringing.

The traditional evening meal will be served from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Traditional Village.

Evening performances will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Traditional Village. Stickball and Stomp Dance demonstrations, Choctaw hymns, and a performance by the Chipota Chikashshanompoli Language club are all planned for the evening.

“Pearl” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. in the Anoli Theater.

Benediction is set for 8 p.m.
