ADA, Okla. – The 12th Annual Chickasaw Nation Children's Fair is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 27 at the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex.
The family-oriented, free event invites everyone to come celebrate the Week of the Young Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month. This year's Week of the Young Child theme is "Early Years Are Learning Years".
The event will feature performances by several Chickasaw Nation groups, fashion shows, a petting farm, diaper dash, baby party, door prizes, giveaways and more than 70 booths providing health and wellness resources for the entire family.
The event is sponsored by the Chickasaw Nation, in participation with many community organizations and businesses.
The Children's Fair also offers information regarding child abuse and neglect prevention, community organizations' information and various activities for children and families.
According to the National Children's Alliance; in 2010 an estimated 1,560 children in the U.S. died as a result of abuse or neglect and there were approximately 695,000 instances of children suffering maltreatment.
Forty-seven of the 50 states reported approximately 3.4 million children received preventative services from Child Protective Services agencies.
