Release Date: Wednesday, December 12, 2012
By Dana Lance, Media Relations Supervisor
Chickasaw Nation Media Relations Office

The Chickasaw Nation is offering "head shot and resume" workshops designed for actors, models, singers and dancers. All ages and levels of experience are welcome at the workshop, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, January 24-25, 2013, at the Chickasaw Nation Arts and Humanities building.

The building is at 201 N. Broadway, Ada.

The workshop on Thursday, January 24 will be for children, younger teens and their parents. The older teens (and their parents) and adults workshop will be Friday, January 25.  The workshop will be limited to 10 participants per night and include a question-and-answer session.

At the end of the session, each participant will select a time slot for Saturday, January 26, to have head shots completed by a professional photographer.

During the sessions participants will learn about resumes and how to ensure they have a professional one, even for those with little or no experience.

A "head shot" refers to publicity photos of the type most often utilized by people in the entertainment industry.

The differences in types of head shots will be discussed and both good and bad examples will be shown. Attendees will also learn about the type of clothing and make-up needed that will best compliment the individual.

Saturday, actual head shots will be taken by a photographer. Class participants are asked to bring a new thumb drive so their photos can be downloaded.

Certificates will be awarded at the end of the workshop. Copies of the photos and resumes will be on file in the performing arts department of the Division of Arts and Humanities for use in casting calls.  Notification will be made to the individual/parent before releasing information to any casting crew and/or agent.

"It is important to provide services and training to our Chickasaw citizens and others to assist them in developing professional looks and habits in order for them to more successfully audition for films, commercial and stage productions," Arts and Humanities administrator Lona Barrick said. "We are pleased to offer this workshop so people will know what is expected for professional head shots and resumes, which are a standard requirement for all film, commercial and modeling auditions, and are requested more and more when auditioning for plays. To complement this workshop, we will be offering basic, intermediate and advanced ‘acting for the camera' classes for those who need to learn correct acting techniques for film and video. We also will be scheduling classes in stage acting and creative writing.

"Our goal at the Division of Arts and Humanities is to ensure we offer classes in all the arts – visual, theatre, film, music and creative writing."

Deadline for registration is January 19. Should there be a waiting list for this workshop, other workshops will be offered.  Scholarships are available for Chickasaw citizens.  Fees for non-Chickasaws are $40.

Instructor for the classes will be Debra Collins Bailey, who holds a master's degree in performing arts and has taught acting for the camera for talent agencies in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, as well as private classes. She will be working through the Arts and Humanities' performing arts department.

The workshop will be conducted in the black box theatre in the arts and humanities building at 201 N. Broadway in Ada.
