Chickasaw Cultural Center hosts Chickasaw language class Aug. 20

The Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur, Okla. will host an introductory Chickasaw language class 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20.

The "Introduction to Chickasaw" class, conducted by linguist Pamela Munro and Chickasaw language expert Catherine Willmond, provides an overview of the sound and spelling system, grammatical features and other interesting aspects of the Chickasaw language.

Ms. Munro is a linguistics professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. Ms. Willmond is a native speaker of Chickasaw and was born in McMillan, Okla.

They are the co-authors of "Chickasaw: An Analytical Dictionary" and "Let's Speak Chickasaw, Chikashshanompa' Kilanompoli',"Chickasaw Press publications.

The Chickasaw Cultural Center is located at 867 Charles Cooper Memorial Road.
