Horse-drawn buggy rides, Wild West vignettes and old time fiddling are just a few activities that are in store for the Chickasaw White House’s Harvest Fest 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday Oct. 24, 2009.
This event, free and open to the public, is intended to represent the lifestyle of Chickasaw Governor Douglas Hancock Johnston and his family during the early 1900s.
"We are excited to celebrate fall the way they would have in the 1900s," said Regina Berna, director of the Chickasaw Nation department of Museums and Historic Sites.
Other period-themed activities planned include traditional storytelling by well-known Chickasaw storyteller Lynn Moroney, guided tours of the Chickasaw White House and a performance by the western acting group The Ada Free Rangers.
Make and take craft classes will also be offered, with instructions on how to make items such as scare crows and pine cone bird feeders.
Lunch, served from noon to 1 p.m., and all-day snacks will also follow early 1900s harvest theme.
