Chickasaw Nation Hosts Cultural Evening Monday, Sept. 27 at Cultural Center

Chickasaw Tradition, Textiles and Talent featured during Cultural Evening, Sept. 27.
Chickasaw tradition, textiles and talent will be featured during the annual Cultural Evening, Monday, Sept. 27 at the Chickasaw Cultural Center, Sulphur, Okla.
A variety of activities are planned from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Monday, Sept. 27, including tours of the new facility.
Opening ceremony is scheduled at 5:30 p.m., prior to the traditional Evening Meal.
"While cultural evening is always a special time, having the event at our newly opened cultural center adds a unique dimension to this celebration of Chickasaw culture," said Bill Anoatubby, Governor of the Chickasaw Nation. "It is very fitting that we embrace and share our culture in a venue which reflects the imagination and spirit of the Chickasaw people."
The Chikasha Poya Exhibit Gallery, which features several interactive attractions and the Aaholitopli Honor Garden, open at 4 p.m. for tours.
Children's activities and Cultural Demonstrations, including stickball, bow shooting, beading and other traditional crafts will take place in the Chikasha Inchokka' Traditional Village from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Portraits of the Elders by Mike Larsen and Mahota Woven Art by Chickasaw artist Margaret Roach Wheeler will be on display from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Aatifama Room.
Chickasaw author Phil Morgan will also be signing copies of Chickasaw Renaissance and Chickasaw: Unconquered and Unconquerable during the day in the Aatifama Room, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Films will be shown in the Anoil Theater throughout the day.
Opening Ceremony is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Kochcha' Aabinili' Amphitheater with a prayer, the posting of colors and the traditional bell ringing prior to the evening meal.
The 7:30 p.m. Closing Ceremony at the Kochcha' Aabinili' Amphitheater will feature Chickasaw and Choctaw hymns, stomp dancing by the Chickasaw Nation Dance Troupe and a performance by the Chipota Chikashshanompoli Language club.
