The Chickasaw Nation is hosting the fourth annual "Walking the Park: Stomp out Sexual Assault" awareness walk beginning at 10 a.m. Sat. April 21, at Wintersmith Park, in Ada, Okla.
April is National Sexual Assault Awareness month, and to raise awareness locally, the Chickasaw Nation and local agencies are inviting everyone to come join a group walk in the park.
The event will feature free food and drinks, a demonstration by the tribal dance troupe and other activities. T-shirts will be provided to the first 150 participants.
National and State statistics show:
- Every two minutes someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted.
- One in three Native American women suffers sexual assault during their lifetime.
- Seventy-seven percent of sexual assaults victims know their perpetrator.
