Native American students interested in obtaining a master’s degree in public health and conducting breast cancer research are encouraged to apply to the Program in American Indian Community Health (PAICH) at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
The PAICH is offering scholarships to American Indian and Alaska Native students and the deadline to apply is July 1, 2010.
The scholarship, funded by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, requires the student to be enrolled in the KU-MPH program. It provides full tuition and fees, a paid research assistantship, professional development and use of a laptop.
Scholarship renewal is based on satisfactory academic status and progression toward degree completion. As part of the degree requirement, students will be expected to conduct a breast cancer research under a faculty mentorship.
Students must satisfy the following requirements for consideration:
- Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Submission of a complete KU Graduate School application
- Submission of a complete KU-MPH application
- A personal statement
- A resume / CV
- Two official copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts
- Standardized test scores less than seven years old (GRE, GMAT, LSAT, DAT, MCAT or USMLE Steps 1 and 2)
- One semester of college algebra or calculus
- Three letters of recommendation with recommendation forms
- A $35 application fee made payable to KUMC
