Department of Family Services
The department of family services is designed to facilitate the formulation of new skills for addressing family related issues within the tribe. The goal is to strengthen the family unit and decrease the incidence of divorce, infidelity, violence and other related issues that undermine the family structure. The department utilizes a group approach to skill building, which allows for maximum utilization of available resources and incorporates the wisdom and support of its members into the skill building process. Group facilitators adhere to our Native American culture, making the dignity and privacy of each participant and their family, of utmost importance.

  • Fatherhood Men’s Group
  • Single Parent Support Group
  • Family & Marital Support
  • Divorce Recovery Group
  • Prevention Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP) Training

Fatherhood Men’s Group
The fatherhood/accountability men's group utilizes education, accountability to peers and group support to assist fathers in becoming strong leaders and providers for their families. Participants of the group focus on the development of skills and behavioral practices necessary to positively impact and influence family function. Group members do not divulge intimate family details, as is required in most traditional group settings, thus allowing their dignity and privacy to remain intact. Focus is instead placed on each member developing skills and actual behavioral techniques that can be utilized to strengthen his family without relying on outside assistance, which is more consistent with our Native American culture. Group Members will share their wisdom, support and encouragement while holding each other accountable to fulfill their family obligations.
Single Parent Support Group
The single parent support group focuses on the development of useful resources that will assist single parents in providing for their families while caring for their own personal needs. Participants of the group learn new skills and develop more resources for meeting the daily demands of single parenthood, through the sharing of the strengths and techniques they use when dealing with single parenting challenges. Group members become a source of support and encouragement for each other and are provided with Chickasaw Nation program and services resource information.

“Life after Divorce” Fresh Start Recovery Group
“Life after Divorce” Fresh Start Recovery group utilizes a faith-based approach to assist participants as they navigate the emotional and spiritual challenges resulting from divorce.
With nearly 50 percent of all first-time marriages now ending in divorce, we are seeing more people in pain from broken relationships and families than ever before. With the divorce rate for second marriages even higher - how do we help 'divorce proof' new relationships?
Anger, fear, loneliness, confusion, and grief are just a few of the many emotional storms that come with divorce. Hard decisions with children, friends, family, money and 'who gets what' only make the road more painful, not to mention the battle with forgiveness and the uncertain road ahead. What's sad is that most who walk this difficult path go through it with little or no guidance or emotional and spiritual help.

Family & Marital Therapy
Family and marital therapy is available to employees of the Chickasaw Nation through the tribe's employee assistance and through therapists from the office of strong family development. Family and marital therapy for community-based families is also available through this office or through collaboration with faith-based organizations when appropriate.

Prevention Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP) Traning
In cooperation with the Oklahoma Marriage Initiative, the Chickasaw Nation Office of Strong Family Development offers Prevention Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP). PREP training provides couples with the education necessary to become successful communicators and problem solvers. This program is for everyone, regardless of current relationship status. It does not matter whether you are in a new relationship, have been married for a number of years or are an empty nester. PREP training is an opportunity to learn the insights and skills linked to effective marital function.
