This department provides Chickasaws with the opportunity to pursue higher education through various grants and scholarships. Required forms are available at the above postal and web address.

Deadlines

Fall semester: September 1st
Spring semester: February 1st
Summer semester: June 15th
*Award notification is given once all paperwork has been completed and turned in before deadline.

The deadline for high school seniors applying for the Millennium, Governor’s, Lt. Governor’s and Legislators’ scholarships, deadline is April 1 for the following: Chickasaw citizenship card, essay, letter of recommendation and high school transcript. All other documents are due September 1.

Clothing Scholarship
Chickasaw students attending college full-time may be awarded a $300 clothing grant for each classification as they progress through college (e.g., freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, graduate or doctorate.) Part-time undergraduate students enrolled in six-11 hours will be eligible for a $150 scholarship for every 14 hours completed. Graduate/doctorate students must be enrolled in six-eight hours to be eligible for $200 scholarship for every 15 hours completed. The scholarship will be distributed to the student in the form of a check.

General Scholarship
Chickasaw students attending three credit hours or more each semester in college while maintaining a 3.0 semester GPA or higher each semester are eligible. The award is based on enrollment and classification. An incentive is available based on GPA.

Governor’s, Lt. Governor’s & Legislators’ Scholarships
These scholarships are for graduating high school seniors (awarded one time only). Students who have a GPA of 3.85 or higher, or who have been selected as class valedictorian or salutatorian are eligible. Seniors must meet the April 1st deadline for the following documents: citizenship card, high school transcript, essay and letter of recommendation.

Higher Education Grant
The grant may be awarded to undergraduate, graduate or doctoral students who maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher each semester. All undergraduate students must apply for federal aid.

Inter-Tribal Council of the Five Civilized Tribes Johnson-O’Malley Scholarship
Each year the Chickasaw Nation awards this scholarship to one male and one female graduating high school senior (awarded one time only). The students must be attending a school within the Chickasaw Nation that has a JOM program.

Lifetime Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded every fall semester to five full-time Chickasaw students, each of whom is at least a sophomore in college and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher each semester. The scholarship pays for full tuition, fees, books, room and board at any accredited college or university for the duration of consecutive enrollment as an undergraduate, graduate or doctorate student. It is a service repayment scholarship with a maximum of two years of service.    Deadline for fall semester is July 1.

Millennium Scholarship
The Millennium Scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors having a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Each year a maximum of 50 scholarships are given to students who will be attending either college or vocational training upon graduation from high school. Seniors must meet the April 1st deadline for the following documents: citizenship card, high school transcript, essay and letter of recommendation.


Textbook Grant
This grant may be awarded to full-time or part-time undergraduate, graduate or doctoral students enrolled in at least three college credit hours who maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher for each semester. Part-time students may be awarded $150 per semester. Full-time students may be awarded $300 per semester.
