About:
WIC is a nutrition program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture which is designed to provide supplemental foods, breastfeeding education and support and nutrition education to persons during critical growth periods of life:
- Infants and children up to five (5) years of age
- Pregnant women
- Breastfeeding women
- Women who have recently delivered a baby, up to six months following delivery
Nutritionists, a lactation consultant and breastfeeding peer counselors are available to assist families with special needs.Applicants should call for an appointment.
Benefits include fun nutrition education/activities, immunization screening/referral and a food package, including milk, infant formula, cheese, cereal, juice and peanut butter or beans. Additional benefits are available to mothers who choose to breastfeed. During the summer months participants are also eligible for Farmers' Market Nutrition Program coupons for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables at local farmers' markets. Applicants must meet income guidelines.
You do not have to be Native American to receive Chickasaw Nation WIC benefits.
Families with two incomes may now qualify for WIC. Check with WIC offices to see if your family qualifies. Nutrition screening is part of the application process. Registered Dietitians are available for nutrition information.
Special emphasis is given to providing breastfeeding support for moms who choose to breastfeed. Peer Counselors and a Lactation Consultant are available 24 hours a day.
You Provide:
- Proof of income
- Proof of identification
- Proof of residency
Eligibility:
- Must meet income guidelines
- Nutrition assessment (completed during visit)
- Prenatal; or
- Breastfeeding; or
- Postpartum; or
- Infants and children up to five years of age
