What is Chokka’ Kilimpi’?

  • Chokka’ Kilimpi’ (strong home) is a Family Resource Center in Norman, which helps build healthy Chickasaw families.

How can Chokka’ Kilimpi’ help?

  • Offers therapeutic counseling services to individuals, families, couples and caregivers of Chickasaw children
  • Provides personal navigators who serve as care coordinators to help people locate programs and services that are available to them
  • Participates in research collaboration with the University of Oklahoma
  • Supports Chickasaw students by giving them a welcoming place with a sense of community
  • Offers internships and learning opportunities to students who are interested in the social resource fields
  • Teaches unique cultural programs including native beading, basket making and language

Chokka’ Kilimpi’ Family Resource Center is a center-piece for Governor Anoatubby’s Family Initiative and is one of the top three Chickasaw Nation efforts along with the new hospital in Ada and the new cultural center in Sulphur. Initial planning began in 2006 and in August 2009 Chokka’ Kilimpi’ opened its doors on the University of Oklahoma’s campus.

Chokka’ Kilimpi’ brings together a multi-disciplinary team using existing and new initiatives that strengthen Chickasaw families. We partner and collaborate across divisions within the Chickasaw Nation to continue to meet the needs of Chickasaw families. Chokka’ Kilimpi’ is also the center for training and research in collaboration with the OU Center for Applied Social Research.
