The Chickasaw Health Information Center (CHIC) is an on-line consumer health information center where patients, family members or visitors can access health care information relating to specific conditions, pharmaceuticals and research materials.

The CHIC Center is located in the town center of the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center (CNMC) and contains computers and a rolling kiosk that can be moved to different clinic lobbies.  Users have access to MedlinePlus, Pubmed, NLM Gateway, Toxnet and much more.

By providing access to credible resources, the Chickasaw Nation is hoping to help build a healthier community and reduce the health disparities faced by many Native Americans today.

To maximize this new resource, CNDH will implement the use of an "e-prescription" in the near future.  The "e-prescription" will be given to patients by their provider and will consist of pre-printed website URLs that they can use to access information on disease topics or wellness information specific to their conditions.

CHIC staff is available to assist patients during their visit to the CHIC Center. Privacy screens are utilized so that patients can maintain confidentiality. Printers are available for those who prefer to print information for home review.

The CHIC Center will continue with the new hospital and will expand to serve more patients.

The CHIC Center is a project between CNDH, the National Library of Medicine and Computercraft.  The National Library of Medicine is the most trusted and respected website for medical information, and is currently the largest medical library in the world.  Computercraft is a Chickasaw owned company.

Patients are encouraged to become more informed and involved in their health care.  The Joint Commission has made available several brochures to show patients how and when to Speak Up.  (http://www.jointcommission.org/GeneralPublic/Speak+Up/)
