Description

District Youth Councils

The Chickasaw Nation District Youth Councils are groups of Native American students ages 13-21.  Their purpose is to conduct business on the youth level for their respective districts in a fashion similar to that of the Chickasaw Nation Tribal Legislature.  Councils have monthly meetings to discuss and vote on fund raisers, community projects and youth concerns.

In addition to the district youth councils, the officers of each council make up the 13 member Chickasaw Nation Executive Youth Council.  Both the district youth councils and the executive youth council function according to bylaws written by their peers during past terms.

Additional Information:

  • District Youth Councils represent Panola, Pickens, Pontotoc and Tishomingo districts
  • District Youth Councils are elected by their peers through participation in community youth groups
  • District Youth Councils are comprised of 13 members
  • Members must be drug and alcohol free and sign a leadership commitment form
  • Community Youth Group participants conduct an election campaign for officer positions during the annual Youth Services Fall Retreat
