An acclaimed U.S. senator descends upon a frontier town to attend the funeral of the meager rancher, Tom Doniphon. The local newspaper editor is piqued, inquiring why an important figure would attend Doniphon’s memorial. The senator recounts a series of extraordinary events which led the two men to have such a strong bond.
