  • A simple pinch pot is displayed after being completed with a centuries-old method during a community arts and crafts class.

TISHOMINGO, Okla. -- The Chickasaw Nation will host a community pinch pot class open to the public at no charge 1-3 p.m., Saturday, July 21, at the Chickasaw Council House Museum, 209 N. Fisher.

Pinch pots are a simple form of pottery usually made of clay and shaped with many small movements of the hand. The pinching technique creates both the practical form of the pot and the ornamentation.

The Chickasaw Nation has planned monthly community arts and crafts classes for locations across south central and central Oklahoma all year. Class topics include the Chickasaw language, finger weaving, stomp dancing, beading and painting.

Class size is limited and supplies will be provided. For more information or to register, call the Chickasaw Council House Museum, 580-371-3351.
