Holba’ Kana’li Film Series

The Holba’ Kana’li Film Series began in 2009 as a way of showcasing Native American and Indigenous film and filmmakers.  Through this program arts and humanities is able to highlight the work of actors, writers and directors to an audience who may not otherwise be exposed to the variety of films shown in the Holba’ Kana’li Film Series.  Independent films and big budget movies covering a variety of genres such as comedy, drama and horror have been shown.

Occasionally filmmakers will attend the screening of their movie and participate in a question and answer session.  Past filmmakers and actors who have attended the Holba’ Kana’li Film Series include Sterlin Harjo (“Four Sheets to the Wind,” “Barking Water”), Travis Hamilton (“Turquoise Rose,” “More Than Frybread”), Richard Ray Whitman (“Barking Water,” “The Only Good Indian”), Casey Camp-Horinek (“Barking Water,” “DreamKeeper”) and Georgina Lightning (“Older Than America,” “Christmas in the Clouds”).  Since 2009, the Holba’ Kana’li Film Series has featured more than two-dozen full-length movies including “Turquoise Rose,” “Christmas in the Clouds,” “Barking Water,” “Rabbit Proof Fence,” “Imprint,” “Reel Injun,” “Skins,” “The Only Good Indian,” “Tar Creek,” “Older Than America” and “Princess Kaiulani.”

Movies are shown at the Chickasaw Nation’s McSwain Theatre, 130 West Main, Ada, Oklahoma.
