Junior Native Explorers/College Native Explorers

The Chickasaw Nation Junior Native Explorers Program is an innovative, hands-on, professional mentor-led education program designed to recruit, train and educate young people in the areas of earth science, natural science, biomedical science and medicine.

The goal of the Native Explorers program is to increase the number of Chickasaw students that pursue degrees in science and medicine. Chickasaw students who participate in the program will be exposed to these fields of study by working with scientists, physicians, educators and a number of other professional mentors through inventive education programs and excursions.

Students will have the opportunities to participate in unique learning experiences such as archeological expeditions, anatomy explorations, natural resources and preservation initiatives and much more. Student will also learn about the various career opportunities and internships available within these fields.

The program is available for Chickasaw students ages six to 18 who reside in the Ada, Okla. and Ardmore, Okla. areas. 

You Provide:

  • Copy of Chickasaw citizenship card or certificate
  • Copy of other Tribal Citizenship or CDIB

Eligibility:

Junior Explorers
  • Native American
  • Ages six to 18
  • Must reside in Ada or Ardmore area

College-Age:

The college-age Native Explorers program offers guided exploration of the natural world to Native American college students. Participants will travel with a team of Native American research scientists, educators and physicians on a scientific and cultural expedition.

Applications are available to all eligible Native American college students.

All college applicants must complete the OSU Native Explorers application.

You Provide:

  • Native Explorers Application (college-age only)
  • Letter of reference from an academic instructor

Eligibility:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • be an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe,
  • have positive academic standing,
  • have a high school diploma or equivalent
