TISHOMINGO, Okla. -- The Chickasaw Nation will host a basket weaving class 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Chickasaw Council House Museum, 209 N. Fisher.
Instructor Susan Ledford will explain the history and practice of creating a simple round reed basket during the class, which is open to the public at no charge.
Basketry is one of the practical arts the Southeastern Indians, Chickasaw ancestors, commonly practiced. The most common material they used was river cane.
