Celebrate fathers and the return of summer during the Chickasaw Cultural Center’s Toompalli' (Summer) Festival and Inki' (Father) Day Celebration, set 10 a.m.-5 p.m., June 14.
The Toompalli' Festival is a Chickasaw Cultural Center signature event designed to welcome the season of summer through Chickasaw culture, history, language, music, the arts, food and films for the whole family.
The event also kicks off the Summer Performance Series in the Anoli' Theater with special guest performer A.J. Harvey, recently featured on NBC’s “The Voice.”
Father’s Day activities are also planned to honor fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers for their contributions to families and communities.
During the event, fathers will receive free admission to the Chikasha Poya Exhibit Center and discounts in the Aachompa' Gift Shop. Father’s Day make-and-take activities, vegetable and herb seedling giveaways, a family-friendly film, and $1 kabobs and $1 drinks in the plaza are also planned.
A traveling exhibit, “Away From Home: American Indian Boarding School Stories,” is available at the Chickasaw Cultural Center until Aug. 9. This multimedia exhibit from the Mid-America Arts Alliance features a kaleidoscope of voices from the boarding school era.
The Chickasaw Cultural Center is located at 867 Cooper Memorial Drive in Sulphur, Oklahoma.
