SULPHUR, Okla. — An interactive, educational and tasty experience awaits with the Ayowa' Garden to Gourmet Agritours, set to take place at the Chickasaw Cultural Center April 11, May 16, Aug. 29 and Sept. 19.
This hands-on educational tour is offered quarterly during the harvest seasons and focuses on a garden to gourmet experience and learning how to use what you grow. Participants will begin with a tour of the campus gardens to learn about traditional planting methods and how Chickasaw Ancestors used native vegetation in their day-to-day lives.
After the campus garden tours, Aaimpa' Café chefs will walk participants through an immersive and delicious cooking demonstration. Chefs will prepare seasonal, healthy dishes using select, fresh ingredients from the campus grounds for participants to enjoy. Planned recipes include:
April 11: Radish tartine with herb butter
May 16: Wilted Swiss chard with chili flakes
Aug. 29: Zucchini ribbon salad
Sept. 19: Blistered green beans with lemon-garlic aioli
Tours will begin at 10 a.m. and end around noon. Attendees should wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes. Each agritour participant will receive a complimentary swag bag upon arrival with gardening gloves, “Three Sisters” seed kits and more. Admission is $10.
