Chickasaw Nation Anolí Creative Writing Contest

Open to Chickasaw citizens in sixth through 12th grade, this free contest allows writers to exercise their creativity. Anoli' is a Chickasaw word that means, “to tell.” All submitted works must be original. Poetry and short story entries will be judged on artistic form and creativity. Essay entries will be judged on how well they respond to the prompt. Winners receive cash prizes.

There are three divisions:

  • Division I: grades sixth-eighth
  • Division II: grades ninth-12th
  • Division III: adults 18 and older

Categories (one entry per category is allowed):

  • Poetry (64 lines or less)
  • Short story (1,000 – 2,000 words)
  • Essay (1,000 words or less)

Application and guidelines for the contest will be available Dec. 1, 2019. The deadline to submit entries is Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020, at 11:59 p.m.

You Provide

  • Chickasaw citizenship card
  • One written entry per category-poetry, short story and essay
  • Completed application
