The Chickasaw Archaeological Survey Program helps participants gain archaeological fieldwork experience during a one-week journey to the Chickasaw Homeland.

Must be a Chickasaw citizen and 18 years of age or older. Additional eligibility requirements may apply.

Eligibility
  • Must be a Chickasaw citizen
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be physically able to work in hot or cold environments and perform tasks such as kneeling, digging and carrying loads up to 30 pounds

Program Details

Gain archaeological fieldwork experience during a one-week journey to the Chickasaw Homeland. Participants will learn about the rich history of the Chickasaw Nation by conducting metal detector and pedestrian surveys, identifying artifacts and working on investigative and preservation excavations.

Participants are immersed in Chickasaw heritage at many historic and cultural sites, such as, but not limited to, Chokkilissa'-Old Town, the Chissa'Talla Preserve and the 1736 Battle of Ackia site.

This opportunity includes travel expenses, lodging and meals.
