A new symphony inspired by Chickasaw stories will debut March 9 at the East Central University (ECU) Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center Ataloa Theatre located in Ada, Oklahoma.
The original composition, titled “Chintaloowali (I Sing to You),” results from a partnership between Chickasaw composer Zach Garcia and Oklahoma City Philharmonic Music Director Alexander Mickelthwate. Garcia composed the four-movement work, which draws on Chickasaw history and reflects the challenges and resilience of the Chickasaw Nation.
The musical premiere will be performed by the University of Central Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mickelthwate.
Admission is free. Tickets will be available at the Ataloa Theatre box office. The performance begins at 7 p.m.
