Family Medicine Residency

Welcome to the Chickasaw Nation Family Medicine Residency (CNFMR) in Ada, Oklahoma! Thank you for your interest in our program. The combination of our community’s unique state-of-the-art facility and capable and experienced medical staff provides the environment, skills and knowledge necessary for your success. We provide residents with excellent opportunities to grow, both professionally and personally, through “hands-on” learning and evidenced-based medicine. Our talented staff, curriculum and strong commitment allow residents to serve the Native American population, while gaining a unique education and experience.

Program Goals and Objectives

The primary goal of the CNFMR is to train fully competent and compassionate family physicians. The program’s philosophy is that family medicine is the cornerstone of medical practice.
The program is broad in scope and built upon core knowledge and skills derived from traditional medical principles and surgical models. This approach is designed to develop a family physician who is able to care for the whole person and his or her family.
Continuous and comprehensive care is an essential longitudinal component of these educational experiences. The resident will be trained to provide acute, chronic and preventive care in any setting, including ambulatory sites, hospitals and long-term care facilities. The resident is expected to maintain a continuing physician-patient relationship with a panel of patients throughout his or her residency experience, regardless of the rotation. Rotations are specifically designed to provide a broad base of patient care experiences, with increasing levels of complexity and patient care responsibility.
