Chickasaw Nation Curriculum

The Chickasaw Nation offers a set of curriculums for educators to teach in their classrooms. The provided curricula uncovers our deep history, culture and traditions. Each curriculum is aligned with the Oklahoma Academic Standards as outlined in the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s 2014 Social Studies guide. The following Oklahoma Academic Standards are to be used only as a basic guide. Other standards may be applicable that could be based on teacher’s own interpretation of the lesson material or ability/need to make a conceptual connection. This curriculum examines the Chickasaws’ first encounter with Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto and his conquistadors in 1540.

On Top of the World: Pearl Carter Scott Elementary Secondary This curriculum highlights the life of Eula “Pearl” Carter Scott, the first Chickasaw aviator and youngest pilot in the United States. 2 Chickasaw Nation
Carl Albert and the Chickasaw Nation Elementary Secondary This curriculum discusses the impacts former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Carl Albert had on the Chickasaw Nation as it pertains to greater, quality access to health care. 3 Chickasaw Nation
Bearer of the Morning: Te Ata Elementary Secondary This curriculum explores the dynamic life of Te Ata (TAY’ AH-TAH), a Chickasaw storyteller who traversed cultural barriers to become one of the greatest Native American performers of all time. This curriculum is a supplement to the documentary Bearer of the Morning: The Life of Te Ata Thompson Fisher. Montford Johnson: An Original Brand Elementary Secondary This curriculum offers a unique perspective into the life of Montford Johnson one of Oklahoma’s great cattleman, known across the region as a fair and successful businessman and whose influence impacts the industry today. 3 Chickasaw Nation
