The Chickasaw Nation Recruitment and Retention program prepares, supports and empowers Chickasaw college students for success with on-campus resources at nine colleges in Oklahoma.

  • Chickasaw citizens
  • Chickasaw Nation residents or Chickasaws at-large
  • Students at universities with R&R programs

Recruitment and Retention Program

The Chickasaw Nation Recruitment and Retention Program prepares, supports and empowers Chickasaw college students for success with on-campus resources at East Central University, Mid-America Christian University, Murray State College, Oklahoma City Community College, Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City, Rose State College, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, University of Central Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma.

Students in the program gain a social and cultural community, academic support and a connection to resources available through both their campus and the Chickasaw Nation. Student centers at each campus provide space for students to meet with staff and participate in monthly social, cultural, academic and career development events.

This program supports Chickasaw students from enrollment through college graduation. 

Apela (to assist) Application
MentorshipPer semester

As part of the Chickasaw Nation Recruitment and Retention Program, the Apela program offers peer mentors for Chickasaw students. Apela participants assist fellow students with friendly support and guidance throughout the semester.

Mentors are compensated for their time. Mentors must be participants in the Recruitment and Retention Program.

Chickasaw Nation Residents Chickasaws At‑Large
This program is available to part-time and full-time Chickasaw students attending a state or nationally accredited career technology center, trade school or private licensed training facility, whereby graduating students receive a professional certification or license upon completion of their program. In addition to certification programs, funding may be considered on a case-by-case basis for advanced or graduate certifications at colleges and universities, bridge programs, continuing education, license renewal coursework and other career advancement opportunities that may not lead to a traditional certification.
